"Teaching 21st Century Students"

Olivia Jackson

Junior Olivia Jackson was named Greene Central's Athlete of the Week for the second week of October. Athletes of the Week, who are nominated by their coaches, are typically determined by the athlete who shows a little more effort or does something that really sticks out to their coach throughout the season.
Jackson was nominated by the women's junior varsity tennis coach Jean Brendel for the ability she possesses on the court even when she is behind in a match.
"Olivia pushes through to do her best in all situations," said Coach Brendel. "No matter what the outcome, she always keeps a positive attitude."
Jackson has been playing tennis for four years. She is the number one seed and plays number one doubles with Taylar Keel.
"Stamina and having the drive to want something are just a few qualities it takes to become a great tennis player," commented Jackson.
Jackson said she enjoys tennis because it's very fun, and she thoroughly enjoys playing doubles.
"Over this past year weve all grown closer. We learned how to work as a team and to support one another. After all it takes a whole team to win," said Jackson.
"When given direction, she always applies that to each situation which has helped her achieve her record of winning singles and doubles this season," commented Brendel.
Her advice to the upcoming students and fellow tennis players is that school always comes first, make sure you keep your grades up and learn to manage your time wisely.
She is currently enrolled in Allied I, Graphics I, Pre-Calculus, and Honors Chemistry.
She plans to attend either East Carolina University or University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill after school to major in Nursing.
She is a member of the womens junior varsity tennis team as well as Health Occupation Students of America, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, softball and dance. She is the daughter of DeWayne and Janet Jackson of Snow Hill.
