Daquan Lee-Jones
Junior Daquan Lee-Jones was named Greene Centrals Athlete of the Week for the first week of December.
Athletes of the Week, who are nominated by their coaches, are typically determined by the athlete who shows a little more effort or does something that really sticks out to their coach throughout the season.
Jones was nominated by the varsity men's basketball coach Elijah Rouse for being an all-around great athlete.
"Jones is always a pleasure to coach. He takes what I tell him and actually strives to do his best. Even when we're behind, he always keeps a positive mentality," said Coach Rouse. Jones has been playing basketball since he was a little boy. He says basketball is his passion, something he loves to play to deal with the stress of balancing school, basketball team, and social life. "Always doing your best and being dedicated to the team is probably the most important thing a coach could ask for. I always do what I say and give everything 110%," commented Jones.
Jones said he would like to continue playing basketball throughout college. He also stated that playing basketball has been the best part of his junior year so far.
Teammate Freddy Presley stated that Daquan is a good student and excellent athlete. He always picks the team up when were being defeated and become frustrated. Hes just an all-around good person.
"My advice to the upcoming students and teammates is to always play as a team. Keep working hard and don't ever give up! Make sure you always go hard in everything you do," said Jones.
"I chose Daquan not only for his work efforts on the court, but he always puts school first and has good grades in all his classes," said Rouse.
He is currently enrolled in United States History, Algebra II, Physical Science, and Webpage Design.
Jones would like to attend the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill or Wake Forest to pursue a career in Computer Science. He is the son of Johnny Lee and Severia Lee of Snow Hill.
