Senior Danyelle Beamon was named Greene Centrals Athlete of the week for the last week of November
Athletes of the Week, who are nominated by their coaches, are typically determined by the athlete who shows a little more effort or does something that really sticks out to their coach throughout the season.
Beamon was nominated by her varsity women's basketball coach Tonya Winfield for being an outstanding leader and captain.
"Beamon has been a big asset to the team not only this year but during her four years of playing. She's a very hard worker and truly loves being on the court ," said Coach Winfield. Beamon has been playing basketball for six years. She is this year's point guard as well as the captain.
"Having the mental toughness I think plays the biggest role in just about everything. If you put your mind to it, youre almost guaranteed to succeed," commented Beamon.
Beamon said she enjoys basketball because its fun and she is a very competitive person. She has recieved several scholarship offers to continue playing basketball, but hasn't made her decision yet. "Being named captain this year really made me reflect on my attitude and work ethnic. If I don't hustle and keep a bad attitude, they don't hustle nor keep a good attitude," said Beamon.
"Beamon has been a great player to work with. She has played every minute of the past two games. She leads the team on and off the court and always stays positive." said Winfield.
Her advice to the upcoming students and fellow teammates is to always stay focused no matter how hard things get.
She is currently enrolled in Ceramics, Civics and Economics, Colorguard and Math 161.
Although Beamon hasn't decided where she'd like to attend college, she plans to pursue a teaching career.
