Athlete of the Week: Tevin Bates
By Kaylee Griffin
Sophomore Tevin Bates was named Greene Central’s Athlete of the Week for the second week in December.
Bates was nominated by his Junior Varsity Basketball coach, Phil Cook, for his awesome determination at practices and on the court.
“I enjoy basketball because of the joy of winning a game and the feeling I get when I’m playing on the court,” says Bates.
“My favorite part about basketball this year is all the new players that have joined the team,” adds Bates.
“To be great basketball player you have to have good technique and know the rules of the game.”
Bates got interested in basketball when he was little. “My Uncle is the big reason I got into basketball, he put me on his recreation team and I just fell in love with the game,” says Bates.
Bates is currently enrolled in JROTC, Geometry, English 10, and Foods I. Bates is also a member of FBLA and enjoys participating in community service activities sponsored by the JROTC.
“My favorite part about my sophomore year is the students in my graduating class and all the people I have classes with this year,” commented Bates.
Bates’ plans for the future are to enter the military for the Army services and start school from their. However, he is undecided about what he would like to major in.
Bates is the son of Norman Bates of Mississippi and Carolyn Bates of Snow Hill.
