Athlete of the Week: Ricardo Arias

By Kaylee Griffin

Junior Ricardo Arias was named Greene Central’s Athlete of the Week for the last week in October.
Arias was nominated by his soccer coach Enrique Benitez, for his outstanding play during the Greene Central Soccer season.
“I enjoy soccer because it is something I have done my whole life.” says Arias. “I also enjoy the feeling we get when we win a match.”
“To be a good soccer player you need to have good mentality. You also have to be patient and not get to desperate to win.” adds Arias.
Arias has been playing soccer all of his life. While growing up in Mexico, he was exposed to soccer daily. “The environment I grew up in made me love soccer.” says Arias.
“When playing soccer you have to make sure that you are working as a team and you can’t be a ball hog. You should always think of ways that you can improve.” says Arias.
Arias is currently enrolled in Physical Science, Civics and Economics, Welding, and English 11.
Arias is a member of the Spanish Club at Greene Central. He also volunteers in Hookerton as a referee for recreation soccer matches.
Arias’ plans for the future are to attend Wayne Community College and transfer to a 4 year university. “Although I don’t plan on making soccer my occupation, it will always be a hobby I do on the side.” says Arias.
Arias is the son of Carlos and Hermelinda Arias of Snow Hill.
