Athlete of the Week: Jessica Hatch

By Kaylee Griffin

Sophomore Jessica Hatch was named Greene Central’s Athlete of the Week for the first week in November.
Hatch was nominated by her Women’s Varsity Tennis coach, Donald Clark. She was nominated for her outstanding play on the court during the Women’s Varsity Tennis season.
“I enjoy tennis because I really love to play the game and I also get to make new friends,” says Hatch.
This is Hatch’s second year playing tennis on a high school team. It is her first year playing on a varsity team.
“Varsity tennis is a lot different than junior varsity tennis because we have to run a lot more and we also get to play in more matches,” adds Hatch. “It is harder when you play on varsity team because it requires a lot more commitment.”
Hatch, who has been playing tennis for four year, says “To be a successful tennis player a person needs to have focus, good sportsmanship, and good leadership skills.”
Hatch is currently enrolled in Advanced Topics in Journalism, Honors Geometry, Spanish I, and Biomedical Technology.
Hatch is a member of Health Occupation Students of America (HOSA), Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA), and Greene County Young Life. She also volunteers at the Greene County Tennis Special Olympics.
Hatch says her plans for the future are to attend East Carolina University and she plans to major in something in the medial field.
She is the daughter of Bradley and Torrie Hatch of Snow Hill.
